What is Folk Hex Art?

Folk Hex Art is Coloring Galaxy’s take on what has commonly come to be known as Dutch Hex Signs and Barn Quilts. In the early 17th century Dutch, German and Swedish settlers migrated to the North Eastern part of the United States and more specifically the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. With them, they brought a robust history of traditions including the use of hex signs and barn quilts to commemorate special events in their life. They would paint these illustrations on the side of homes, barns and sheds. Dutch hex signs were traditionally round in shape and Barn Quilts had a variety of shapes. Interpretations vary as to the meaning behind each of the traditional Hex Signs and are as rich as the culture they come from. We hope you enjoy our unique designs.
